Infected By Art Volume 7 Selected Work

I am happy to announce that I have had a piece selected for inclusion in Infected By Art Volume 7. I really love IBA, and it is a real honor to be included with so many other great artist and their work. You can see a full list of the art included in IBA 7 over on their website. As I said, lots of great work! Here is the piece that was accepted, Hollow Alley created for The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia...

This might be my favorite piece completed so far for The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia. It is nice to see that this was the piece that was selected to be featured in IBA 7. If you are curious, here is everything that I submitted for consideration in IBA 7. Congrats to everyone that made it in and a huge thanks to the jury and to Bill Cox for all his work in making IBA a reality. I can't wait to see the completed book first hand!

That is all for another exciting Monday on the blog. See you back here on Wednesday! Until then...

Another Annual Spectrum Tithe

Yesterday was the deadline for Spectrum 26 submissions. I chose to submit this year after a lot of waffling. Most of my indecision comes from wondering if I should submit my pieces from The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia now as unpublished work or wait till next year when they will be published. In the end, I submitted them as unpublished work since I have already submitted them to Infect by Art this year.

Since submitting I have read and participated in many conversations on Facebook regarding Spectrum and who had and had not participated. Lots of opinions and lots of different levels of participation. I myself have been submitting, off and on, since 2010. This is a drop in the bucket for some people. I know plenty that submitted for ten years, or more, before getting accepted while there are others that got in on their first submission.

Looking back on my blog I apparently wrote at length last year about Spectrum and submitting. Glancing back at it, I am not sure I can add anything more to it if I wanted to. If you are interested, the post is still on the blog.

Everyone approaches these sort of things differently and gives them a different level of importance. Some people leverage a great deal of self-worth in being accepted into juried events and publications, while others do not. At one point it meant a great deal to me, but as time moved on, I see it very differently.

To the chosen few who will find themselves in Spectrum 26, I salute you! To those that do not make it, your art is fantastic and keep being awesome!

That is all for another exciting week on the blog, see you back here next week. Until then...

Recent Artist Proof Sketches

Recently had several Magic the Gathering artist proofs purchased that I needed to put sketches on. While creating them, I realized I had not done any artist proof sketches since IX this past October. How the time flies! These are always fun to work on, and while I create most of them at conventions, I sometimes feel I end up with better results when I work on them at home. Can you guess which cards these are on?

Recent Magic the Gathering artist proof sketches

Another relatively quick post today. I have a backlog of posts to put up, but my schedule has been rather busy, and it allows for only the briefest amounts of time for the blog - if any. Hopefully, in the coming weeks, I can begin to push out some beefier content.

That is all for another exciting Wednesday on the blog, see you back here on Friday! Until then...

More Unexpected Installations

This past October I encountered another unexpected art installation while out on my morning walk. This encounter took place the day before Hurricane Michael hit the Florida Panhandle. I do not know what became of this installation, but once the hurricane was gone and life returned to some semblance of order, it was gone. I still have no idea who is responsible for these installations or if they are being created by the same person, but I am so happy when I discover them. I almost recognize the pattern and brushwork on the guitar, but I am uncertain if whom I am thinking of is responsible. No matter, here are some images of the arm guitar...

Arm guitar just chill'n at the bus stop.

Hey there arm guitar, is this seat taken?

Let's shake on it, arm guitar.

I hope the creator or an admirer came and removed the arm guitar to safety before the storm hit. Hopefully, it was not blown away in the hurricane. All I know is that I look forward to the next installation that I discover.

That is all for another exciting week on the blog, see you back here next week! Until then...

Star Wars Allies and Adversaries Preview

It is a strange feeling when you haven't worked with a client in a couple of years, and you take a look at a new book they are releasing, and the sample spread features not one, but two pieces of your art...

Two pages of hot alien action!

Later this year Fantasy Flight Games will be releasing the Allies and Adversaries supplement for the Star Wars RPG. It looks to be a collection of NPCs and their stats. Can't tell for sure, but it appears to be a collection of existing art all compiled into a new book, though I would imagine there is original art also. If asked, I would have been reasonably confident that some of my work will be in the book. As we can see from the image above I am most definitely in the book. These two are likely not the only pieces of my work appearing in the book. It should be interesting to see how many and which illustrations end up in the book. I guess the folks at FFG liked the looks of my work enough to feature it as the sample, which is really cool, to say the least. My Star Wars legacy lives on even to this day...

Instagram Palette?

I have been noticing people posting their Instagram palettes, and it got me curious. Why are people posting their Instagram palettes? Still, have not figured it out, but I went and got my own Instagram palette. Not really sure how far back it goes to pull colors, but from the looks of mine, it is mainly pulling from all my toned paper work from the last couple of years. I guess it is pretty neat, though it is out of context for me. For those interested, here is my Instagram color palette...

BEHOLD! My Instagram palette!

And, by the way, if you did not already know, I have an Instagram page you can follow!

I did want to mention I plan on posting a 2018 year in review post. Things are a little crazy right now, and I am doing all I can to make sure it gets written in a timely manner. Sometimes hard to stop writing the book so that I can write about me writing on the book. More on this soon!

See You at Gen Con 2019!

I am happy to announce that I have been accepted into the 2019 Gen Con Art Show this coming August 1-4! From what I was told it was another very tough year to make it through the selection process. I love attending Gen Con and I am already looking forward to returning. Speaking of returning, this will be my 9th time in the art show! Each year gets better and better, and while it will be hard to top the last couple of years it will definitely be a lot of fun.

Gen Con 2018

Once Gen Con is a bit closer I will share with you more details, but for now I am focused on being ready for Pensacon on February 22-24. I hope to see you at one, or both of these shows!

That is all for another exciting Friday on the blog, see you back here on Monday! Until then...
