THANK YOU!!!

Without your help, we couldn't have done it!

Twenty-two years and one month later, we are funded and on our way to the printers! My endless thanks to everyone that helped to make this day a reality. We could not have done it with you. MANY thanks to Achsa Nute, Steve Leacock, Jon Schindehette, Brian Stillman, and Jeff Solomon for all their work to get the books finished and the Kickstarter created. To all that recorded themselves reading sections of the book, Allen Panakal, Ralph Horsley, Kayla King, Daniel Hooker, Chris Seaman, Iris Compiet, Scott M Fischer, Jabari Weathers, and of course the great Todd Lockwood, THANK YOU for your time and energy to support the project. My personal thanks go to Jason Pedersen, Amy Jiao,  Kat G Birmelin, and last but certainly not least, Jacob Walker for their time and artistic talent in coloring my monsters. And lastly, thanks to each and every one of you that backed the Kickstarter, shared the links, shouted from the rooftops, and supported me along the way! We made it! It's done, and there will be books soon!

After a little rest, it will be time to double down on getting back to work on the next books in the series. I have many more stories to tell, monsters to create, and art to make.

I have a lot of non-Grand Bazaar blog posts to share with you. Stuff that has been sitting around and waiting for me to have the time to share it. Well, now that the Kickstarter is over and the Grand Bazaar is out of my hands, I will have that time.

That's all for another VERY exciting Monday on the blog, see you back here on Wednesday! Until then...

One Fantastic Week Interview

*UPDATE! The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia is NOW AVAILABLE!*

If you missed it earlier this week, I returned to the One Fantastic Week Podcast and had a great time. I talked about the Grand Bazaar Kickstarter, making art, balancing time, and what I have been up to in the past six years since I was on episode 6 of the podcast 6 years ago. Yes, I am sharing this again, but I don't think it got the attention it deserved on Wednesday. I had a ton of fun, and I think I may have passed along some helpful information.

So far, 49 people have given it a thumbs up while one has given it a thumbs down. Not sure what I did to offend that person's delicate sensibilities, but I hope they reach out to me so that I can address their needs. Go have a watch for yourself and figure out what I may have done to make someone unhappy.

That's all for another exciting week on the blog. See you back here next week! Until then...

Gen Con Featured Artists!

Yesterday it was announced that I am one of the three featured artists at this year's Gen Con, July 30-August 2! This will be my tenth Gen Con appearing as an artist, and it is truly an honor to be recognized this way and to share the title with two other amazing artists that I am lucky enough to call friends.

This is something I have had to keep quiet since the beginning of January, while at the same time arranging things like crazy behind the scenes. While I had planned since last year to have the Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia printed and in hand for Gen Con, this annoucement meant they HAD to be at Gen Con. I have put all my attention and work towards my book, and without it, my presence at Gen Con would be somewhat diminished. So while this was and continues to be exciting news and a great honor, there has been a little bit os stress getting everything arranged and moving to make sure Gen Con and the Grand Bazaar all happen when they need to and how they need to. Exciting times, to say the least!

As both Nen and Steve have already agreed on Facebook, we aim to misbehave at Gen Con! We all have a lot of fun at conventions and Gen Con, in particular, so we hope to take part in some shenanigans and try to be somewhat professional...

There is a bio up on the Gen Con site featuring my exploits and samples of my work. THere will be a more involved interview coming to the Gen Con blog later in the month. I will be sure to share it here when it posts.

And lest you forget, The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia Kickstarter is nearly done with its first week, and it has been an exciting week, to say the least! Head on over to check out all that is going on!

That is all for another exciting week on the blog, see you back here on Monday! Until then...

The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia NOW LIVE & Updates!

*UPDATE! The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia is NOW AVAILABLE!*

It has been a crazy five days, to say the least. The Kickstarter for The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia went live on Saturday and funded in five hours. I spent a fantastic weekend at Pensacon talking to people about the book, the Kickstarter, and I sold out of a lot of older stock - which is super important with the Grand Bazaar on the horizon. If you missed it, I shared the rough printer proofs live on Facebook at the launch of the Kickstarter. These proofs arrived on Friday morning before the first day of Pensacon began. They are not final. The covers will be replaced with red leather with gold embossed text and graphics. Paper and printing quality will also be improved in the finals. That said, the books are already beautiful. I am so happy with how they look, and I can't wait to share them with you all. Here are some images of the main book.

As I have said, this cover will be red leather with gold embossed text and graphics. These proofs were made by hand, which is pretty cool.

The Shaper Cleaner, or as it is commonly known, the Gullet.

Near the center of the book, the map folds out so that you can see the image in its entirety.

On the reverse side are a legend and smaller line art of the map so that you can see where key locations are.

For the Kickstarter, we had a video made by the amazing Zdenko Basic. He did a tremendous job on the video and really brought the Grand Bazaar to life. I could not be happier with it!

As previously mentioned, I have created not one book but three books. The second being a coloring book. This one is the closest to what I imagine the final will look like, though it will be of better quality.

The cover is obscured with paper samples. We will determine which takes a marker and pencil the best.

Each spread has a rhyming description that gives you an idea of what each monster is about. Every page of art has a black backing to limit bleed and so that each image will be as pristine as possible to work on.

I absolutely LOVE how the environment pieces printed. I love lines!

As part of the campaign, we have had artists and creatives that we know do a short reading from the book. First up is the legendary Todd Lockwood!

The last book available in the Kickstarter is a Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition compatible stats book for the monsters in my book. This book is set in the world of the Grand Bazaar and is written by a pair of psychometricians. As with the main book, the cover will be red leather with gold embossed text and graphics. The note I am holding up states that the image on the cover will be centered in the final book.

Get all the stats for your favorite citizens of the Grand Bazaar and learn about what psychological issues they might have.

I advise against it, but your players could take on even Ethra VanDalia.

And our first update regarding the campaign - In celebration of funding, we have incorporated "add-ons" into the Kickstarter! We will be partnering with BackerKit so you can either add to your pledge amount now or add-on additional items during the survey process. If there happen to be any additional shipping costs due to the number of add-ons you get, BackerKit will automatically figure that cost out for you in the survey process.
  • Crest of Ethra Pin: $10
  • Grand Bazaar Coloring Book: $10
  • Stats Book: $15
  • Grand Bazaar Book: $40
We have more planned, so keep an eye on the campaign, this blog, and my Facebook page. We are not done yet!

That is all for another exciting Wednesday on the blog. See you back here on Friday! Until then...
