Campaign Roundup - Panakal and Hare

Today on the blog, I wanted to point out several current artist campaigns that I think you all might be interested in. They feature fantastic art by incredible artists, and if you have not already checked them out, you should do so NOW!

First up is Allen Panakal's Ancient Ones. Book Two. Codex of Orion. Allen shares:

Codex of Orion contains full-color illustrations paired with new stories from my Ancient Ones setting. Twelve chapters and five new artifacts clock in at 100 pages in this beautiful hardcover edition.

This is the second book from his world, and I couldn't be more excited. It has been an honor to watch Allen create his world with his unique vision and artistic voice. His work is unlike anything I have seen before, and I can not stress how great his work is. If you missed his first book, you can get both in his new campaign!

Next up is Emily Hare's WANTED - Cosmic Outlaws, Space Pirates & Intergalactic Scallywags. Emily shares:

The universe is under great threat from gangs of unscrupulous and ruthless alien outlaws. It is up to you to track down these felons, both naughty and notable and bring them to justice!
What is Admiral Pimpleneurker wanted for? Does Gorson Dust really smuggle flunch manure and wot weed? Why does Sandra at your local council office look so suspicious?
What is a Zloppcumber and why is it illegal? You will find out the important answers to these questions and more, in this comprehensive publication.
This book is a collaboration between my husband Matt Dixon and I.
The book was originally going to be a collection of mugshots of various criminal extra terrestrials, inspired by the wonderful mugshots of criminals and vagrants from the late 1800s to early 1920s. I wanted to create my own alien criminals and describe their crimes and what they'd been caught for. Matt expanded on this idea by suggesting that rather than having been caught, these were characters who were yet to be captured and the title changed from Mugshots to WANTED - Cosmic Outlaws, Space Pirates & Intergalactic Scallywags!
This new offering from Emily looks like so much fun! I love monsters (and aliens), so this is right up my alley. I love Emily's watercolor work, and it is exciting to see her turn her attention to being from a mysterious cosmos. Her designs are fun, whimsical, and unexpected. I can not wait to get my copy!

That's all for another exciting Thursday on the blog. See you back here on Friday! Until then...

IX Panel: From the Ground Up: World-building to Publication - Sunday 10/24

IX is next week! Since this is my first event since February 2020, and it will be the debut of the full Grand Bazaar experience I have been planning and preparing for weeks. I believe I am ready, save for loading everything into a trailer, getting it all to Reading, PA, and then setting it up. But at this point, all that seems like a tiny bit of work compared to everything I have done recently. While IX will be the best five days of imaginative realism art, it will also be full of lectures, demonstrations, and panels. As it would happen, I am hosting one of those panels.

From the Ground Up: World-building to Publication

Join me along with Allen Panakal, Jon Sideriadis, and David Thorn Wenzel as we discuss our various methods for world-building and storytelling. We will also discuss and share the different options we used to see our works published. The ups and downs, what worked and what didn't, and everything in between relating to the creation of worlds and getting them printed will be covered. There will also be plenty of time for questions from the audience.

I am genuinely looking forward to this panel to talk and share our experiences in creating and publishing our worlds. I hope to see you there with plenty of questions ready for the Q&A.

I will be back here on the blog after IX with pictures, stories, and more!

That is all for another exciting week on the blog. See you back here after IX. Until then...

Kickstarter Roundup - Panakal

Today on the blog, I wanted to point out a current Kickstarter project by my friend Allen Panakal that I think you all might be interested in. Allen is a singular artist with a bold and unique style. His work stands out from the majority of the artists I know, and for me, it was instantly captivating. If you have not already checked him out, you should do so NOW!

Here is some more information about the project in Allen's own words:

"The Ancient Ones is about one man’s discovery of extraterrestrial civilizations that have been manipulating humanity. As he travels the Milky Way, a seemingly chance encounter with an alien cabal makes him realize that he is the key to a galactic world machine. Now, he's tasked with saving Earth or letting it perish along with many other planets.

I've been illustrating the Ancient Ones since 2014, but I've been writing it since 2009. This is Book One of a potential four-book series. I'm slowly creating my own sci-fi world for my characters and stories to live in. I'm asking for your help to make these books a reality."

As a builder of worlds and a teller of stories, I am SO excited about Allen's first book becoming a reality. He needs your help now to get this project over the finish line. As I write this, it is well on its way to being funded.

There are many tiers to support Allen and his work at, as well as a ton of add-ons so that you can get as much of his work as you would like. There are even high-end tiers where you can get large metal prints of his key pieces, AND they are offered at an exclusive discounted price. We are stocking up on the metal bookmarks, you can never have too many bookmarks! Now is the time to support Allen and ensure that his project becomes a reality! Head over the Kickstarter and check out this fantastic project!
That is all for another exciting week on the blog, see you back here next week! Until then...

AradaniCon Wrap Up

This past Friday and Saturday, I was able to take part in AradaniCon, a free online convention hosted by the good folks at Aradani Studios. There were panel, demos, cosplay, artist hangouts, gaming, and a late-night digital dance party. While I could not attend as much as I would have liked (computer failures and unexpected real-world issues), I took part in the artist hang out and Sam Flegal's panel, How to Find Your Voice as an Artist. It was Sam, Allen Panakal, and me talking about art, making art, inspiration, and more. We took questions from those watching live, and I had a blast. It is available in its entirety on YouTube.

How to Find Your Voice as an Artist

For the time being, I think this may be the way of things, and I see more of this happening in general in the future. It was fun, easy, costs only time, and was a way to connect with people all around the country and world nearly seamlessly. A HUGE thanks to all the Bielaczycs and all of their work done to get things up and working, inviting me to take part, and making it all happen. Really good times!

That's all for another exciting Monday on the blog, see you back here on Wednesday! Until then...

THANK YOU!!!

Without your help, we couldn't have done it!

Twenty-two years and one month later, we are funded and on our way to the printers! My endless thanks to everyone that helped to make this day a reality. We could not have done it with you. MANY thanks to Achsa Nute, Steve Leacock, Jon Schindehette, Brian Stillman, and Jeff Solomon for all their work to get the books finished and the Kickstarter created. To all that recorded themselves reading sections of the book, Allen Panakal, Ralph Horsley, Kayla King, Daniel Hooker, Chris Seaman, Iris Compiet, Scott M Fischer, Jabari Weathers, and of course the great Todd Lockwood, THANK YOU for your time and energy to support the project. My personal thanks go to Jason Pedersen, Amy Jiao,  Kat G Birmelin, and last but certainly not least, Jacob Walker for their time and artistic talent in coloring my monsters. And lastly, thanks to each and every one of you that backed the Kickstarter, shared the links, shouted from the rooftops, and supported me along the way! We made it! It's done, and there will be books soon!

After a little rest, it will be time to double down on getting back to work on the next books in the series. I have many more stories to tell, monsters to create, and art to make.

I have a lot of non-Grand Bazaar blog posts to share with you. Stuff that has been sitting around and waiting for me to have the time to share it. Well, now that the Kickstarter is over and the Grand Bazaar is out of my hands, I will have that time.

That's all for another VERY exciting Monday on the blog, see you back here on Wednesday! Until then...

Coloring a Footman by Amy Jiao and New Selected Reading From the Grand Bazaar by Ralph Horsley and Allen Panakal!

*UPDATE! The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia is NOW AVAILABLE!*

A LOT to share with you today! We are in the last days, and things are coming fast and thick.
The amazing Achsa Nute (who is also my wife) reached out to several artists to see if they would like to color one of the monsters from The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia Coloring Book. They, of course, said yes because they are awesome and cool. Next up, we have for you today the contribution of the amazing Amy Jiao, who brought color to the Ophiomornous Bureaucrat.

The Grand Coloring Book of Ethra VanDalia measures 9x12 and is 84 pages. It features one-sided art with solid black on the reverse side to allow marker use and to limit bleeding. The book is available separately on my Kickstarter and is bundled with several of the other tiers so that you can receive the coloring book and the rest of the books offered in my campaign. Here is how the Footman will appear in the main book.

There are some newly selected readings available for your viewing pleasure. They are all up on my YouTube Channel, or you can enjoy the two latest videos here. Ralph Horsley and Allen Panakal once again lend their voices to breathe life into the Grand Bazaar.

Next in our series of selected readings from the Grand Bazaar, the outstanding Ralph Horsley shares some words by Barr Urt (Owner & operator of Urt’s House of Meats) regarding Grynk!

Next in our series of selected readings from the Grand Bazaar, the amazing Allen Panakal shares the words of Krnjak Cadiz Mah’h (Hoarder) regarding Quincaillerie.

That is all for another exciting week on the blog. See you back here on Monday and most likely after the Kickstarter has concluded. Until then...

Kickstarter Roundup - Panakal

Today on the blog, I wanted to point out a current Kickstarter project by my friend Allen Panakal that I think you all might be interested in. Allen is a super awesome artist, and if you have not already checked him out, you should do so NOW!

Allen Panakal's Ancient Ones Collection Enamel Pins Kickstarter is not to be missed! Allen is creating his own mythos with his Ancient Ones series of painting, and he is now branching out into enamel Pins. There are many tiers to get the pins and his art if you are so inclined. If that is not all, this Kickstarter offers a crossover! Andrew Thomson is also creating enamel pins, and through Allen's Kickstarter, you can also get Andrew's pins. All the details you need are over on Kickstarter. The Kickstarter is already funded, it ends in just a couple of days, and last I checked it was just a couple dollars away from a stretch goal, so now is the time to act! I am getting my pins, are you getting yours?

That is all for another exciting Tuesday on the blog, see you back here on Wednesday! Until then...
