Infected By Art Book - Volume 5

Still catching up on announcements from the past couple of month. Happy to announce that once again I will be appearing in the Infected By Art Book. Volume 5 will be out later this year and I will have one piece featured in the book. This time around it will be my Fretwork Colony from Magic the Gathering Kaladesh expansion. Always interesting to see what gets picked by the judges. To be honest, this was the last piece I was expecting to get into the book... and it was the only piece to get in. You never can predict the outcome of these sort of things. Once again here is the Fretwork Colony...

A big thanks to the fine folks behind IBA and to everyone involved with the IBA5 selection process! I can not wait to see how this year's book turns out. Hopefully we will be getting out hands on them again at IX in October.

That is all for another exciting week on the blog, see you back here on Monday! Until then...

A Smuggler Returns in Star Wars Destiny

I have had a piece recently resurface in the new Star Wars card and dice game released by Fantasy Flight Games, Star Wars Destiny. Originally painted in late 2011 and then finally published in late 2013, my Hidden Cache art has a new life as the Smuggling card. Good to see that my Mon Calamari smuggler is now finally getting some attention... six years after I painted it. Here is a look at the new card...

Smuggling card from Star Wars Destiny

Much like my Wookiee Navigator / Gunner card the Hidden Cache card did not get much attention and flew under the radar, but on its second printing in a different game, it is gaining some notoriety. Both the smuggler and the Wookiee were created for the Star Wars Card Games and then went on to a higher profile life in Destiny and X-Wing (respectively). Funny how that works. Here is the original art for the Hidden Cache, notice the crazy wide proportions of the art added before the final templates for the card game where locked down...

If you are interested I posted the process and steps that went into this painting here on the blog back in 2014. You can get a glimpse at how I use to do things back in 2011. I still have the toned drawing that I created in conjunction with this piece. Always loved how it turned out and still surprised I still have it...

Irritated Girasol - The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia

I have a new piece from my series of toned paper monsters! Today's monster is the ever frustrated Irritated Girasol. The Irritated Girasol peddles her wears as best she can to make enough to survive to do it all again the next day. Won't you stop by her spot along the street and see if there is something you need.

My world-building has been going on for a while now and has been manifesting itself in different ways. Here again, is the first appearance for the Irritated Girasol.

BLOG-a-versary!

This is a little late, but on February 17th, in 2009 I began this blog. Eight years and 1285 (give or take) posts later here we are and it is still going. Crazy fun times! If you are curious, you can have a look back at this blog's humble beginnings on February 17th 2009. A lot has changed for me in these eight years and hopefully I have share with you my next big plan in the near future.

I don't need much of an excuse to post this image again.
It continues to be a perennial favorite of mine.
It also is a good image for this anniversary!
EIGHT YEARS RAWR!

At these moments I find myself thinking and saying the same thing year after year. Though repetitive, the message and meaning stay the same and are very much still relevant. I hope that those reading this blog find my journey and ramblings helpful and entertaining. Growth and change are continuous and are a constant struggle. You need to make the art first and foremost for yourself... whenever possible.

I hope, as I begin year ninth here on the blog, that my journey continues to be a productive and rewarding one, just as I hope the same for you as you proceed along your journey. My thanks for reading, commenting, and lurking on this blog, I hope to find it in me to keep this thing going as long as it is needed and useful. RAWR!

That's all for another exciting Wednesday on the blog, see you back here on Friday! Until then...
