Warmachine - No Quarter 51

A couple of weeks ago I shared with you a book that featured some of my art that I was completely unaware of. Today I have for you another bit of published work that I was completely unaware of, this time it is in the form of a magazine. Back in 2013 one of my concepts from my time working on Warmachine miniature was shared in the 51st issue of No Quarter magazine. Not sure how this changes anything now... nearly 5 years later, but it is sure neat to see it now...

Raluk Moorclaw, The Ironmonger concept hanging out as a preview

Finding my work in this magazine was way more easy then finding it in Dungeonology. I was always happy with this design, but it sure took a lot of work to finally finalize it. Even then it changed a little bit as it became a miniature, No matter what, in the end Raluk Moorclaw, The Ironmonger was a cool design and a fun miniature. Here is the full turnaround for this design...

Who know what other published work of mine is out there that I don't know about. There certainly some illegally published work of mine out there... but that is a story for another day.

That is all for another exciting Wednesday on the blog, see you back here on Friday! Until then...

Skarlock Commander - Warmachine - Privateer Press

For today's post I have something all the way from 2011 that is finally out in the world. That something would be none other then the Skarlock Commander which is the second miniature I ever designed for Privateer Press. So those that play Warmachine can now enjoy the mighty Skarlock Commander...

More or less I think this piece weathered the production process fairly intact. There are always the changes that need to occur so that the piece can actually be created. Here is how the final production turned out...

I was working on this piece at the same time I was working on Raluk Moorclaw. As with Raluk, I am not sure I have any great earth shattering story or anecdote to go along with this design. It was just a lot of time and work to get familiar with the project IP and to try to make something very cool. I worked very closely with the Privateer Press Art Director at the time, Chris Walton, and he got me through it all and was a great source of feedback, design notes, and art direction. Though I lack stories I can share with you is a WHOLE ton of concepts, roughs, and monster drawings...

Raluk Moorclaw, The Ironmonger - Warmachine - Privateer Press

Holy cow! Straight from 2011 the very first miniature I ever designed for Privateer Press is NOW finally out! Can't believe it has been this long... 2011... how times files, and talk about production schedules. So thoses that play Warmachine can now enjoy the mighty Trollkin Mercenary, Raluk Moorclaw...

Besides a pose change the design seems to have made it through the production intact. Which is always nice! Here is how the final production turned out...

Since this was my first piece for Privateer Press... and it was done like a million years ago in the life span of making monsters I am not sure I really have any great or witty stories to share about this piece. I spent most of my time while working on this by getting use to the IP, the art director, and the whole process for making miniatures for Privateer Press. What I can share with you is a WHOLE ton of concepts, roughs, and monster man drawings...

Razor Boars - Hordes - Privateer Press

First post of 2014! Starting things off with something I managed to go pretty much all of 2013 without posting... partially because I never knew it had been released! I am usually more on top of when my work is released, but this one slipped by me. Here are my final designs for the Razor Boars for the Privateer miniatures games, Hordes...

Now if you are thinking to yourself that you are very familiar with the Hordes miniatures, but you don't recognize these at all while you may be familiar with the name... There are reasons for this. Here is what the production Razor Boars look like...

Looks like there were some additional edits, changes, and revisions after I turned in my designs! These things happen, while rare, it is inherit in the production of products like miniatures. Actually, most of the work for hire contracts that I sign state that the work I turn in is open to be revised, edited, or even changed out right by the client (read those contracts!). If this happened earlier in my career I would have been devastated and my ego crushed... thankfully my skin has gotten thinker and I have gotten a lot more caviler about the life span of my work once it leaves my hands. This only took five years and some really rough blows to my art self esteem.

As an added bonus, here are a bunch of my designs and concepts that went into the different parts and pieces of the Razor Boar...

Gobber Tinker - Warmachine - Privateer Press

Way back in February of 2012 I worked on a Warmachine Gobber miniature design for the good folks over at Privateer Press. That miniature is now out and I am happy to share it with you today! You might remember my Skorne Mammoth also from the Warmachine line that I shared with you earlier this year. Due to the prolonged complexities of miniatures the gap of time from design to release can be pretty hefty. Enough talk, bring on the Gobber...

The idea behind this little guy is that he is a roving "Mr. Fit It" and carries everything he needs to fix up a damaged Warjack. It was a pretty straight forward piece... I just had to get my head around the very specific established Gobber design and make sure what I designed would fit on the mini base. As with most Privateer Press design work I have done, it continues to evolve once it leaves my hands. Here is how the final production miniature turned out...

As an added bonus, here are a bunch of my designs and concepts that went into the different parts and pieces of the Gobber Tinker. They are in no real order but you can see how this piece came together...

Skorne Mammoth

Way back in September and October of 2011 I worked on a mammoth project... in fact it was the mighty Skorne Mammoth recently released by Privateer Press! I am happy to now be able to share the work that went into creating such a massive miniature. It was no small effort and I worked closely with art director Chris Walton to make sure Privateer Press got what they needed. Here is how the final painted and assembled Skorne Mammoth looks...

Now that you have seen the final product, here are all my finished and final drawings that went into creating the Skorne Mammoth...

The Skorne Mammoth was not the first miniature that I designed for Privateer Press, but it certainly the largest. Now that the Mammoth has been released I will have more of my PP work to share with you very soon. I also have a mountain of concepts and earlier versions of the Skorne Mammoth that I can share as well. As I have said, it was a mammoth project...
