Artorder Sketch - B&W Vampires

If you missed it, last weeks concepts are up at Artorder as well as the next two assignments. Here is my concept for this week...

As a note, the final size is 3" x 6.75" as requested, just shown here larger for your viewing pleasure.

The assignment for this week was to depict a pair of vampires. The piece had to be black and white line art and include several other key details, a full description can be found here. Jon Schindehette really raised the bar on this one. Not only is he giving out an art commission to the 'winner' but he has invited several other art directors from competing companies to have their say and possibly discover new artist. A list of those other art directors can be found here. So there will probably be a lot of new faces on the line up this Tuesday besides the regulars that participate each week, should be exciting!

Don't forget to visit ArtOrder every Tuesday to vote for your favorite artist by leaving their name in the comment field of the Concept Tuesday post! A vote for me is a vote for the future!

  1. Hey Christopher, this turned out excellent! I'm sure your entry will be among the best (as usual). Thanks for posting the larger size image, I love all the detail and line work.

  2. Thank you so much for you kind words, you flatter me :) I appreciate that you think so highly of my work, I am a horrible self critic.

I actually had to get rid of some of the details and line work. I printed it out about half way through inking and realized that much of what I was doing was turning into solid black. I had been working roughly double the requested size at the time.

I hope you have been able to take part in this assignment. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I still really enjoy the Boll Deevil you came up with, still one of my top favorite pieces from all of work created for ArtOrder.

  4. I think all artists are their worst critic. I guess that's the downside of creativity. It makes for better work, though. If you are constantly seeking to improve, you will. I'm the same way and usually end up hating my work :)

There was no way I was going to miss out on this challenge! I'm not surprised that Jon received so many entries. With a judging panel like that, it would be silly to miss out on the opportunity.

I'm really glad (and honored) that you like the Boll Deevil. If I could make a living creating creatures like that all day I would be content.
