Boll Deevil Sketch

Marco Caradonna asked if I wouldn't mind posting the sketch I did for my Boll Deevil concept. I thought that sounded like a good idea, so here it is:

You might notice there are a couple of things different about this sketch and the final. As I moved into the final I just wasn't feeling the top arms. I felt they were not commanding enough or allowed for the type of fine motor control a large devil bug would need to rule over his cotton harvesting minions. I changed them to be more arm and hand like and in the end was much happier with how they turned out.

  1. Thanks a lot for posting your sketch, i find it very inspiring(as well as previous miniature concepts); in your art there's something "old school" that let your pieces stand out,for sure
See you on Artorder and again thanksss:)

  2. You are welcome. "Old School", huh? Never had that term applied to my work before :) Thanks! Just as long as it means my work doesn't look dated.

  3. No man i didn't mean dated at all:), maybe it's just a personal impression, but every time i look at your pieces they remind me something of the better Caldwell and a little of DiTerlizzi(both veteran D&D artists)for instance, either for painterly treatment you use and for design choice.
For old school i mean opposite to the Ultrashiningverycooltoodigitalapparel that seems to work today on game design and publishing as well, and which i partially dislike
Hope it clarify my previous post;)
    Cheers

  4. Thank you for your kind words. To be listed in the same sentence with DiTerlizzi is pretty cool! Thanks for clarifying.
