Art Vs Artist and Top Nine 2022

One final blog post for 2022. This marks post 105 for 2022 as well. This is not the lowest number of posts for a year, but it is certainly not the highest. I will speak more about 2022 in the coming weeks, but I will say it has been another challenging year to make art - for innumerable reasons. But as I have said, that is for a convertions another day. For now, I will leave you with the 2022 year-end art vs. artist and the top nine images from this past year on Instagram. There is some crossover, but not much.

That's all for another year on the blog. I will try to have my year-in-review post up before the end of January, but that might be a hard goal to reach. I will see you back here in 2023! Until then...

Art vs Artist - 2019

The art vs. artist meme is going around again, and I thought I would once again take part in it. I previously shared art vs. artist images in 2018 and 2016, not sure what happened in 2017. This time around I using my most recent works from The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia. Granted, some of these are a little older from last year because I am currently focusing on writing I am not creating new pieces for the book. That said, here is my submission for #artvsartist.

Not much else to say about this, I think it speaks for itself. I need to get back to work. RAWR!

That is all for another exciting Monday on the blog, I will see back here on Wednesday! Until then...

Art vs Artist - 2018

The art vs artist comparison meme is going around again and while I am probably late to it, I thought I would throw my hat in the ring again. I previously shared some art vs artist images back in 2016. This time around I thought I would just stick with the pieces I am currently working, the monsters of The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia. Here is my submission for #artvsartist...

Art vs Artist

There is a meme going around this week matching up an image of the artist surrounded by several pieces of their work. I think the art is meant to show the intentional and unintentional way people's art turn into self portraits. I have never hid the fact that all my monsters are self portraits and in the way using myself as all the monsters is a running theme through my work. I have, am, and will continue to be all the monsters. Here is my submission for #artvsartist...

Art vs Artist
I am all the monsters, one way or another.

Speaking of reference, here are some of the images that went into the above monsters. Some of these you may have seen and at least one has never been shared. I did omit one reference image, but I don't think the over all selection is diminished for it. I find that physically getting into the shoes, or claws, of the character through photo reference really helps me channel the character and get my head around the illustration I am beginning to work on. Acting out the character helps resolve many potential problems as well as leading to many unexpected ideas that working on paper just does not bring. Not to mention all the invaluable reference that the photos provide.
