Infected By Art Volume 11 - A World of Stories

While at IX last month, I was able to get my copies of this year's Infected by Art. I always look forward to getting my copies at the event, and it has become a bit of a tradition in that respect. This year marks the release of volume 11 of IBA, and once again, I have a piece included. A World of Stories from the upcoming The Completed Circle got a full page in IBA #11, and I think it printed great. Here are images of the book, my art, and my art in the book.

Infected By Art Volume 11 Selected Work

I am happy to announce that I have been selected for inclusion in Infected By Art Volume 11. I love IBA, and it is a real honor to be included with many other great artists and their work. You can see a complete list of the art included in IBA 11 on their website. As I said, lots of great work! Regarding my work, A World of Stories, from the upcoming The Grand Bazaar of Ethra Dalia - The Completed Circle, was selected.

You can never know what will or will not make it into a juried event, and it is always interesting to see what does make it through the selection process. If you are curious, here is everything I submitted for consideration in IBA 11. It is not lost on me that none of the client work I did for Magic the Gathering made it in, but my work for my book did. Continued evidence that I am headed on the correct path for me.

Congrats to everyone that made it in, and a huge thanks to the jury and to Bill Cox for all his work in making IBA a reality. I can't wait to see the completed book firsthand!

That is all for another exciting Wednesday on the blog. See you back here on Friday! Until then...

A World of Stories - The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia

I am thrilled to share another new piece from The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia. This illustration is for Book Two: The Completed Circle. This is the first completed large environmental piece for book two and will be the first large plate in the book. The piece I am currently working on will play against this one as we step back several thousand years to follow the epic story of a farmhand as they leave home and travel to the Grand Bazaar in its early days. A World of Stories was meant to be part of book one, but there wasn't the time, and in the end, or space to include it. I had thought it would have to wait till book three, but as I laid out and organized book two, it found a home. It all worked out for the best because this piece had to wait. I was given time to rethink it and make changes to bring more of a narrative and tie it into the other larger pieces in the book. It is also nice to finally show off what is in the sky above the world of Kiervis and the Grand Bazaar. Namely, one of the moons of Kiervis and the close planetary neighbor, Errish, and her moons. The world of the Grand Bazaar is indeed a world of stories, and book two will focus on one of them and open the door for many moreI present to you A World of Stories.

This is the first of three larger pieces I am currently working on. Once they are completed, I will move back to a pair of connected character illustrations, which will be followed by the first of two huge pieces that I have planned for the book. Always more to do, but as long as I stay focused, they will all get completed. Here is a look at the sketch for A World of Stories to show where it began.

As a bonus, I have some images of the rendering process of this piece so that you can get a better idea of it taking shape.

Coming to Gen Con 2022 - New ART!

I am happy to share another surprise I have in store for Gen Con 2022 in August. You can check out the first surprise and second surprise that I already shared. I will be debuting a new large piece of art for book two, The Completed Circle, at Gen Con next week! I present to you with A World of Stories.

Oops, it looks like the camera was focused on the enamel pin of the crest of Ethra.
Sorry about that; you will have to come to see it at Gen Con.

Joking aside, it wouldn't be much of a Gen Con surprise if you got to see it before Gen Con. The piece is currently unframed and likely will not be properly displayed, but if you ask me about it, I will gladly let you see it and even hold it! The piece is 16x20 and is pencil, paint, and ink on paper. It is the first large plate in the book and is a piece I wanted to include in the first book, but there was neither room nor time for it. Thankfully, there is a place for it in the second book, and I am glad I waited to work on it since it is now a better piece. If you have followed me on social media, you have likely seen sneak peeks of this piece over the past month or so. If you missed them, here they are.

Various production peeks that I shared on social media recently.

Be sure to stop by artist alley booth 39 for all your Grand Bazaar needs! You can get the tote bags and badge ribbons for FREE with purchases. You will be able to look at the art for free! I hope to see you there as we inch ever closer.

That's all for another exciting Wednesday on the blog. See you back here on Friday! Until then...
