Arkham Horror: Final Hour - The Return of Unbound!

While I am usually sharing the reuse of my Star Wars work, today I have something a little different. One of the monsters that I originally created for the Call of Cthulhu card game has recently resurfaced in the Arkham Horror expansion, Final Hour. The piece reused was titled Unbound! and features my redesign of the Crawling One that I did for Mansions of Madness games and miniatures way back in 2011. Here is a look at the book art for Final Hour, pretty neat! Now, let's take a look inside.

Arkham Horror expansion Final Hour

Look at all these tokins. Lots of monsters on them, but one of them looks somewhat familiar.

Ah, yes! Here's one that looks very familiar indeed!

Cropped and stuck on a piece of cardboard, the Crawling One is still looking good after all these years. Too bad, there was not the room for the early artist cameo that appears in the original art. Nine years later, there is so much I would change about this piece, but we live and learn, and that is the whole point.

As an added bonus, here is my turnaround for the Crawling One miniature that I created before getting the Unbound! assignment. I was asked to redesign the monster for the miniatures and give it a new spin. With all my miniature work, it was super fun to work on. I kind of miss those miniature designing days.

Star Spawn - Arkham Horror Monsters

Back in August I shared with you my Star Spawn miniature that is part of the 2nd Edition release of Mansions of Madness. I also mentioned that the Star Spawn would also be included in the Arkham Horror Monsters line of prepainted miniatures. That time has come and I am happy to share with you some images of the production miniature of my Star Spawn design...

Pretty cool if I do say so myself! I think that the miniature really turned out great and is extremely faithful to my design. Here again is my turnaround for the Star Spawn so that you can compare...

This was the very last design that I did for this line of miniatures. I am thankful that they finally all made it into production, even if it took one seven years. Hopefully there will be another great line of miniatures for me to work on, if not, I guess I will just have to make my own...

Star Spawn Miniature - Mansions of Madness 2nd Edition

Very excited to finally share this with work with you today. I have only been waiting 7 years for this piece to finally come out. With the announcement of the 2nd Edition release of Mansions of Madness I can now share the Star Spawn miniature design that I did back in 2009. While I have had to wait a while for pieces to finally come out, this by far is the reigning champ for the most delayed release. Better late then never! Here is the initial design for the Star Spawn...

You can imagine my reaction when I looked into the display case at Gen Con during set up. I did a double take since it had been 7 years since I worked on this piece and it has been years since I actually looked at the drawing. I was told years ago when it was not released with the rest of the Arkham Horror miniatures that it would eventually be out as a part of "something special". Well, that day has come and the 2nd Edition release of Mansions of Madness must be pretty special!

Here are two views of the complete turnaround for the Star Spawn. You might notice an edit to the texture of the legs that was requested after the final 3/4 view was created. The right wing in the rear view was a separate drawing that was digitally added for the turnaround.

Since I am sharing everything, because why not it has bee 7 years, here is a look at the very rough scribbly thumbnails that I turned in for miniature concepts. This is the highly detailed and clear roughs that I use to turn in 7 years ago. Scribble scribble scribble...

If the release of the Star Spawn in Mansions of Madness after a 7 year wait was not good enough, it looks like a fully painted version of the Star Spawn will be available later in the year! Looking forward to having this fellow on my shelf with the rest of my miniatures. RAWR!

(Just mine, this is not all of them)

With the release of wave 4 this brings the number of available monsters designed by me to 17! This leaves just one left and I guess I just need to continue to be patient. The remaining miniature is one of the very first ones that I designed and the one that I have been most interested in seeing as a miniature. It should be a big mini and I put a lot of work into the turnaround. I have been waiting since 2009, I can wait a little longer for my personal complete set! Here is a shot of all 17 of the monster miniature that I was responsible for designing... GOTTA CATCH THEM ALL!

Child of Abhoth

Being of Ib

As mentioned in my previous posts about this miniatures, I designed these all way back in 2009. I have some very distinct memories of working on the additional views of the Being of Ib... but that is a conversation for another time. I will have for you on the Wednesday the remaining three miniatures that I designed for this set, the Serpent People, Servant of Glaaki, and Spectral Hunter.

That is all for another exciting Monday, see you back here on Wednesday! Until then...

Arkham Horror Monsters - Wave 3

Wave 3 of the Arkham Horror Monsters - Premium Figures are now available over on the Fantasy Flight Website. I mention this fact because I designed three of the miniatures in this new set! The monster in the set I was responsible for are the Lloigor, Servitor of the Outer Gods, and Star Vampire. Here are the miniature turnarounds...

I took some pictures of the miniatures so you can compare how the finals turned out compared to my designs. This is a really solid batch of minis and they are extremely true to my designs, I could not be happier! I think the Lloigor is my favorite of this set. Always happy when the transition from paper to plastic produces a great looking miniature. See for yourself...

Servitor of the Outer Gods

Star Vampire

This now makes 12 Arkham Horror monsters released! I have six more out there in the ether somewhere just waiting to take shape and cause madness. As you might recall, I designed these back in 2009, and I have been patiently waiting ever since. Looks like the good folks at FFG are releasing a new wave every couple months, so maybe I will not have to wait too much longer to enjoy the fruits of my labor!

Here is a group shot of the three miniatures... three monsters, just chillin' in the garden... looking to cause death and madness... RAWR!

Arkham Horror Monsters - Wave 2 (Part 2)

On Wednesday I brought you the first part of the miniatures that I designed for Wave 2 of the Arkham Horror Monsters. Today I have for you the final two monsters from the set, the Yithian and Proto-Shoggoth. I saved the two largest miniatures for last, because when it comes to miniatures, bigger is better (sometimes, IMHO)! Here are the miniature turnarounds...

I took some pictures of the miniatures so you can compare how the finals turned out compared to my designs. It is always interesting to see what has changed and how my designs were interpreted by the sculpture. I think overall of these two (and overall of the five) I am most pleased with the Proto-Shoggoth, I would have liked to have seen more of the skin texture carry through, but it is just such a weird thing I am happy to see it in plastic. See for yourself...

Here is a group shot of my five miniatures so that you can get a feel for the size of each one. Not a bad looking lineup if I do say so myself!

Arkham Horror Monsters - Wave 2
(Just mine, this is not all of them)

This officially marks the half way point. Nine of my designs have been turned into little plastic monsters and I have nine still waiting to show their madness inducing faces (if they have faces). Hopefully the nine that have not been released yet are still on the way! I have my fingers crossed and am staying hopeful. You can be sure that once they are available you will hear about it here on the blog!

That is all for another madness filled week on the blog! I should be back here with something else new for you on Monday as long as the delivery date I was given is accurate! Until then...

Wave 2 of the Arkham Horror Monsters - Premium Figures are now available over on the Fantasy Flight Website. I mention this fact because I designed five of the miniatures in this new set! It is always interesting to see what has changed and how my designs were interpreted by the sculpture. I think overall of these three I am most pleased with the Wailing Writher, it was miniature I was really looking forward to and I really like the monster as well. See for yourself...

I worked on all these way back in 2009 and I have had to be very patient every since. It is just a real treat that they are finally being released and I don't have to share the designs as a project that 'could have been'. I really love to work on miniature projects and to hold the resulting miniature in my hands and it is that much more of a let down when the project does not see the light of day. Needless to say the wait has been worth it for these, it is really exciting to be able to finally enjoy the final product and to share the work that I put into them.

That is all for a madness filled Wednesday, see you back here on Friday for the rest of the miniatures that I designed for this set! Until then...

Arkham Horror Monsters - Dark Young

Arkham Horror Monsters - Premium Figures, are now available over on the Fantasy Flight Website. I mention this because one of the brand new fully painted miniatures they are offering, as part of wave one, is my very tentacled Dark Young. The Dark Young was the very last Lovecrathian miniature that I designed, and I am just thrilled that I am not having to wait to the end to see it! Here is the miniature turnaround...

Dark Young
(With 100% more tentacles)

I ordered myself one so that I could hold it in my hands and I was not disappointed in the quality of the miniature. It is nice and big and is surprisingly true to the design, though with all minis some changes had to be made. I took some pics of the mini, and here they are...

RAWR! I came here to cause madness with my tentacles and chew bubble gum... and I am all out of bubble gum.

If you are a fan of Mansions of Madness and MoM: Forbidden Alchemy then you are in luck! The miniature appearing in both sets that I designed are also part of wave one of Arkham Horror Monsters - Premium Figures. Now you can have a fully painted Crawling One, Hound of Tindalos, and Witch (as well as the rest of the these set's monsters) to have a hold in your hands! They make great miniatures for any game and I can't wait for my D&D players to run into a pack of Crawling Ones or a Dark Young or two. I am sure there will be many more of these in the future and I will be sure to share them with you here!

That is all for another exciting tentacled filled Wednesday, see you back here on Friday! Until then...
