No Time for Blogging, Dr. Jones!

Things are even crazier and busier. No time left to even think about the blog, but yet here I am. Here are some process images of the drawing I completed over the weekend. This one took a little longer than expected due the renovations on the house. Will have the finished drawing here on the blog very soon...

Slowly but surely coming to completion...

That is all for another exciting Monday on the blog, see you back here next time! Until then...

Taking a Breather - Monster Scribbling #3

Continuing my brief breather from constant blog duty, the monsters have stepped in hold down the fort. Here is another digital sketch of a monster to allow me the time to take a little break. Enjoy, RAWR!

Taking a Breather - Monster Scribbling

Things have been a little bit crazy, are a little bit crazy, and will be a little bit crazy for the foreseeable future. A lot going on across many fronts in my life and when this happens the blog unfortunately is the first to step down as a priority. That said, I do what I can to still keep it going. At least for this week and maybe into next I need to step back and take a breather. The monsters have stepped up to fill the void and there should be some monster scribbles to fill my absence here. Enjoy! RAWR!

Looking Back: Dreamscape Prophet - Draemblade

Today I am looking back at another Dreamblade miniature design that I have never shared before here on the blog, which surprises me a lot. I am realizing that I have not shared a lot more Dreamblade miniatures here that I thought I did. Anyway... Here is the design for the Dreamscape Prophet which was part of the third expansion set to Dreamblade, Anvilborn, released back in 2007...

The art order called for a lawgiver type character with horns carrying a tablet with writing. The figure needed to be pointing the way. The costuming and detail needed to be high and it needed to have a Moses vibe to it. I almost had it on the first pass, but there were a couple things, all in the head and face that needed to be changed. Or rather some elements needed to be pushed further to make it more cool. Here is the original, so that you can see what has changed...

With an approved front view I was given the go ahead to do the rest of the turnaround. Here is the entire design for the Dreamscape Prophet miniature...

By the time I was working on Anvilborn I was really starting to 'get it' when it came to working on Dreamblade, designing miniatures, and developing my own visual language and style. Still had a lot to learn, but things were definitely coming together. I had designed quiet a few miniatures by this point and had produced many many drawings. That is a lot of time, effort, and practice... I would hope that I was seeing some improvement. I always liked this design and for me it really marked a turning point from the frantic 'OH MY GOD WHAT I AM  DOING?!?!?!' phase of working on Dreamblade to the 'let's design some really awesome miniatures' phase. It transition was beginning some on the previous expansion and had fully pivoted by the next. If you were wondering, there is something actually written in cuneiform on the tablet. It reads, if I remember correctly, "Dreamblade is the best game ever" and is followed by my initials. I know... it is a bit silly. Here is how the production miniature turned out for this one...

Happy Birthday to Dear Wife!

Today is Dear Wife's birthday and I could not think of a better way to use today's blog post than to share some images of her from our many adventures. She is my loudest cheerleader, relentless supporter, faithful art director, and the best adventurer. Always looking forward to our next adventure and to the ordinary things we find in our journey through life. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Tentacle Carrion Crawler Miniature

Close to a year ago I mentioned that a miniature was in the works based on an illustration that I created for Michael Bielaczyc and his Sagaborn RPG. Jump ahead and they are now available! If you are so inclined, you can head over to eBay to get one for your very own. The Tentacle Carrion Crawler miniature comes unpainted, but here are some images of a painted up one for your viewing pleasure...

I grew up on metal monster miniature and I absolutely love designing them and having my work turned into them. My first work in the gaming industry was designing miniatures and it has shaped the course ever since. Here are some images of the miniature in the raw, as it were...

Lastly, here is the original illustration that I did that the miniature is based on. Hard to believe it has been four years since I work on this. Time does fly sometimes...
