Zoo Atlanta Reference - Scale, Feather, and Fur

Today I have for you a new collection of photo reference that I took while visiting Zoo Atlanta on the return trip from Gen Con. It has become a yearly tradition to stop and check in on the pandas and all the other animals at the zoo after the best four days in gaming. This year offered up some great reference! Some of it was from animals previously encountered while other is from animals new to us at the zoo. I hope you find this reference as useful to you as I find it to me. Babirusa Pigs for all your Babirusa Pig needs

Still super swamped with too much to get done so I am ending the week with some reference for you and me. I had about 24 spare hours last weekend and that meant a trip to a not so local zoo. Took a ton of photos and I wanted to share some of them with you. Today's selection is the Babirusa Pig! Do yourself a favor and look up what their tusks look like and can do. These specimens did not come equipped with tusks, but they did offer up some great texture and quadruped anatomical reference...

While these may not be a fancy and over the top as a Hornbill the Babirusa Pig offers a lot of great reference to learn from. Just looking at these images now I am reminded of how much I have still to learn about animal design and how much my monsters can still improve. That is one of reasons to never stop looking and learning.

Hornbills for you on my LEVEL UP day

This is my LEVEL UP day, so I am spending it offline as I use up my new skill points and assign another years worth of XP to the correct stat blocks... spoiler alert, I am putting it all into monster making. Today is also the calm before the storm. I have managed a small window of downtime right before the maelstrom of monsters begins (RAWR!). So... in my leave, here are some ground hornbills to make it all better. Kind of like a Hobbit birthday, I am giving you something... Look at all that AWESOME reference. These are from the Atlanta Zoo, enjoy!
