Recent Small Monster Pieces

I recently made several small monster pieces to have with me at conventions. I will have all five at Infinity Con Gainesville this coming weekend. These are all fun little pieces using pencil, marker, ink, and paint. Similar to the larger pieces I had planned to bring to Gen Con earlier this year. These are priced to sell, so I hope they find their forever homes. Feel free to reach out if one of them catches your eye.

Welcome to the Hellfire Club - Dungeons & Dragons

I am thrilled to finally share my work on the newly released Dungeons & Dragons set, Welcome to the Hellfire Club. This is the newest set that mixes classic D&D with the Netflix series Stranger Things. This was a pure joy to work on, not because of it being Stranger Things or even Dungeons & Dragons. It was a joy because I got to work fully traditionally on these pieces. The finals are ink on paper, and they were so much fun to work on. This is the first time working on this type of project, so while there are traditional drawings for these and thumbnail variations, I am still navigating what I can and cannot share. So I will be playing it safe and only sharing the final pieces for now. If you come to IX next week, you will be the first to see all of this work, both the finals and drawings, in person at the show. They will be available for purchase there for the first time as well. As I am also not sure what I can share, I will share with you the art for now, and the stories will wait for another day.

The Grand Bazaar Comes to Illuxcon NEXT WEEK!

Illuxcon 2019 is next week (October 23-27) in Reading, PA. It is one of our favorite events of the year, and as I have mentioned several times here on the blog, this year will be even more special for me. The work that I have been creating for the Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia over the past five years will be on display and available for the first time. I will have a new selection of limited edition prints that are distressed, marked, stamped, and assembled by hand as a collaboration between myself and Achsa Nute. I will be hosting a monster making and drawing workshop. Here are more details on all of these things.

Some see me in Studio 411 bright and early at 10am till 1pm for a talk and demo of making monsters!

On the morning of Thursday, October 24th, from 10-1, I will be hosting a monster making workshop. I will talk about the methods and processes I use to create monsters that I have implemented for over twenty years when working on television, film, and games. I will discuss my approach to monster creation with examples of my work and then will do a live drawing demo as I design and render a monster, time permitting. More information about this can be found HERE.

Each edition is limited to 25 prints that are distressed, marked, stamped, and assembled by hand as a collaboration between myself and Achsa Nute.

I will once again be debuting a new series of limited edition hand altered prints at IX. As with last year, these are a collaboration between myself and Achsa Nute. Unlike last year when I only had one print, we created three for this year. All three appear in the book and relate to the character Shaper and their creations. They will be available individually or as a set at a discounted price. More information about this can be found HERE.

Last but certainly not least, I will exhibiting all but three illustrations that I created for The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia in the Main Show. All of the work that I have created for the book will be on display and available for purchase for the first time. These sales will be going toward the printing costs for the book that will be coming to crowdfunding early next year unless something unexpected happens.

If you cannot attend and had a particular piece from the book you were interested in, I will be opening up all art for sale to anyone interested on the morning of Friday, October 25. Please understand that people attending the event have first dibs and that with my workshop Thursday, it will not be possible to add one more thing to that day. For those interested, the best way to contact me will be through Facebook Messenger or the contact points on my website (please email or text; I will not be able to take calls). I have not shared all of the work that I have created, but you can see much of it here on the blog. Most posts have links to the main piece from the book. Once Illuxcon is over, all work will not be available again until the crowdfunding for the book begins. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave them here, and I will answer them ASAP. Here is a sample of some of what will be at Illuxcon next week.

These prints will also be part of the Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia book. If you can not make it to IX this year, do not worry, I will be making any remaining prints available on my store after the event.

Here are some images from the distressing and marking process. Dear Wife did a fantastic job on these prints, and I could not be more excited about how they turned out.

Scorpion Redsign - OHOTMU Reduxe

Over five years ago I redesigned the Marvel villain Scorpion for The Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe REDUXE Edition (OHOTMU Reduxe) blog. For whatever reason, this was never posted on their blog, and a quick check shows that no new content has been posted there in over a year. I am tired of looking at these images in my blog queue folder, so I decided it was finally time to share this image. Here is my redesign of Scorpion.

I had a lot of fun with this piece, just as I did with all the work that I created for this redesign blog. There was nothing but freedom when it came to the redesigning and the deadlines were flexible. I am still pleased with everything I did for them. Here is the original page for Scorpion, unfortunately, I do not know who the original artist was that contributed to this page.

Lastly, here is the pencil and ink work that went into this illustration. As I began to ink, I realized that the legs were WAY too short in the drawing. It was an easy fix as I inked, and it improved the piece.

I am unaware of what the future holds for The Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe REDUXE Edition blog, but I believe this to be the final piece I will have done for them. Glad to finally share it.

That is all for another exciting Wednesday on the blog, see you back here on Friday! Until then...

SagaBorn Core Rulebook

Last April I shared with you a piece that I did for the SagaBorn Core Rulebook, the wily Homunculus. While at Pensacon a couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of seeing Michael Bielaczyc, creator of SagaBorn and all around great guy, and he gave me my copy of the book. With everything going on I forgot that I had yet to get my copy, so it was a welcomed surprise! Before we go any further, here is how the final Homunculus turned out...

I can not say enough good things about Michael and his work. I have been seeing a lot of excitement about SagaBorn and it is great to be a part of this project any way that I can. If you enjoy a solid RPG made by people who love gaming, then you should really check out SagaBorn. More content is coming so you can expect many more great additions to the SagaBorn universe in the near future. Here is the great cover for the Core Rulebook, which is where you can find my Homunculus...

I am always excited by folks creating their own worlds and making their own projects. This is one of the reasons I try to help Michael out as much as my schedule allows. ...that and he is a super great guy! Again, if you want to try out a great RPG and help support people making things they care about and love then you need to go check out the SagaBorn Core Rulebook! Finally, here is a image of the Homunculus from the book getting the royal treatment as it takes up a half of page...
