Enraged Woofettes - The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia

I am thrilled to share another new piece from The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia! This illustration is for Book Two: The Completed Circle. After only referring to them by their species name, I am pleased to finally show you what a Woofettes looks like. The Woofettes appear throughout the first Grand Bazaar book, and I planned from the beginning to finally debut them in the second book. As mentioned then, I shared the Dashing Vagabond piece; the Vagabond, a Ullnach named Nimmulli’Zhaq, has a Woofettes companion, and the Enraged Woofettes of book two is that companion and goes by the name of Gaurlvetaur. You saw a bit of leg in the Vagabond piece, and if you look closely just behind the Gaurlvetaur's leg in this piece, you will see the Vagabond cluelessly walking away while the assassin that had been following them is getting more than he bargained for. Gaurlvetaur works on Nimmulli’Zhaq airship doing all the physical labor and keeps him out of trouble when on the ground. Nimmulli’Zhaq isn't the brightest, bravest, or even that smart, but he has an airship and a Woofettes friend to watch out for him. I present to you the Enraged Woofettes.

As much as I enjoy the large environmental pieces, it is nice to return to slightly smaller and more focused images for the characters from the book. This was my first piece of 2024, and I am pleased with how the Woofettes and Vagabond turned out and go together. Here is a look at the sketch and tonal study for the Enraged Woofettes show where it began.

As a bonus, I have some images of the rendering process of this piece so that you can get a better idea of it taking shape.
