Pathfinder Advanced Race Guide - The Return of the Gnome Blacksmith

I have for you today another piece of my Pathfinder art that made an encore appearance. I am not sure how I missed so much in 2012, but here is another publication from tweleve years ago that only recently showed up on my radar. This time around it is the Advanced Race Guide. It is always interesting to note which pieces show back up again and again and which do not. To start things off, here is the cover packaging for the Pathfinder Advanced Race Guide.

The piece that returned in this publication is the Gnome Blacksmith. This was originally designed and painted for the Gnomes of Golarion book back in 2010 (though I may have made the work in 2009). I did several pieces for the Gnomes book and I had a lot of fun working on it. Of all the Gnomes that I painted in the book, it has continued to surprise me that this is the one piece that shows up again and again. I assume it is becasue it depicts a specific task that aren't seen in many other pieces. Or, someone just likes it. We may never know. Here is a look at the final painting of the Gnome Blacksmith.

Lastly, here is now the piece looked in the Advanced Race Guide. It did always print well, which is a plus. OH, how I would do this piece so differently now. But, that said, there are still some things I like about this one.

Magic: The Gathering in Miniature II Show!

I am thrilled to announce that I will be part of the Magic: The Gathering in Miniature II Show, taking place at Nucleus Gallery in Alhambra, CA. From April 13, 2024 - April 28, 2024, a collection of Magic the Gathering artist proofs adorned with drawings and paintings on their back will be on display. After that, for the following year, the cards will be available online through the gallery. There is a show page for the gallery that has all the information, previews, details, and artist list. I will have four pieces in the show this time around and they are all monsterous Planeswalkers - Angrath, Karn, Quintorius Kand, and Vraska. They are each on the back of a Gudul Lurker. Here are the cards I will have in the show!

Viburnought Portrait - The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia

I am thrilled to share another new piece from The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia. This illustration is for Book Two: The Completed Circle. This will be a character portrait accompanying one of the short blurbs at the beginning of a chapter. I shared more about these with the first post focused on these portraits. With most of these, I have an idea regarding their voice and placement in the book, but the fun part is that it is not set in stone and may turn into something very different from what I first planned. I present you with a Viburnought (name to come later) which lack any organ resembleing an eye as they are originally subterranean. They have a keen sense of hearing and the ability to feel the world around them. This is also based on a very old design I had abandoned as a failure.

These are the smallest pieces created for the books. There is something charming about a 5 x 5 image, and I have already framed them up. Here is a look at the sketch for the Viburnought to show where it started.

ANother NEW Aarakocra Miniature

AGAIN, if you are saying to yourself there are already several Aarakocra miniatures out there and that I shared them here on the blog, you are correct. Today I am sharing ANOTHER NEW Aarakocra miniatures that was 'recently' released. Let us start things by looking back at my original Aarakocra painting that I created for the 5th Edition Monster Manual.

Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures release of the Aarakocra Paladins is a two-pack of Aarakocra miniatures. I think the miniatures looks excellent and are very dynamic. Here is the unpainted Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures release of the Aarakocra Paladins.

As I have stated above, the Aarakocra has already been made into several miniatures. It was a prepainted mini that was part of a standalone miniatures game that is now no longer in production, and again recenly, it was made into a pair of fighter minis. NEW ARTIST PROOFS! Coveted Peacock

I am thrilled to announce after a little delay, I finally have my new Coveted Peacock artist proofs on my store. This is a reprint of this card, which was originally from the set Conspiracy 2: Take the Crown. It took flight again recently in the set, Commander Masters, which was released in 2023. I have been juggling a lot lately, and these proofs kept getting ignored, but thankfully that has been rectified.

Ut-Louw'Vat Portrait - The Grand Bazaar of Ethra VanDalia

Today on the blog, I wanted to point out a current Kickstarter project that I think you all might be interested in. It features fantastic art by an incredible artist, and if you have not already checked it out, you should do so NOW! 

 

Melissa Sue Stanley's Make 100 Baba Yaga Huts

First up is Melissa Sue Stanley's Make 100 Baba Yaga Huts. Melissa shares:

The stories of Baba Yaga and her home are captivating: the witch, the wise woman, the mother, the terror, the horsekeeper, the traveler in a strange and monstrous hut.

On some days my head is full of her mystery and lore, finding poetry and art in the dark shadows and thorny paths.

Other days, let’s be honest, I’m just thinking: “Man, that house is rad as heck. I wish I had one I could scramble around the forest and drink tea in.”

Whatever your Baba Yaga mood, this project captures the spirit of long wandering rambles through the moss-filled wood.

And for those that may not know, Melissa Sue Stanley is an illustrator and sculptor from northern Illinois. The lush green and blue landscapes of Midwestern summers are the heart of what inspires her work. She creates creatures in watercolor and sculpture as a way to explore these open fields and deep forests, looking for the small moments of magic and mystery hidden in these environments.  You can find out more about her work at MelissaSueStanley.com.

I am extremely excited about this project. I love Melissa's work. There is a playfullness and whimsy that attraches me to her work. You should definitely help out to make this a reality and get yourself some Baba Yaga huts!
