Because I hate doing blog posts without any images, here is a sword my amazing wife bought for me over the weekend that will be a great addition to my reference arsenal…
Monsters use swords too! RAWR!
That's all for another exciting Monday, see you back here on Wednesday! Until then...

Hi there. I'm working as a junior game designer for a small game company in Asia and just wanted to ask you a few things.
ReplyDeleteI have difficulty painting without lines, I'm one of those painters whose stuff generally looks better with the line work intact. Is this considered a 'handicap' of some sort in the industry? Sometimes I get a little worried when I see amazing pieces done without line work but at the same time I see equally amazing pieces with the line work intact but I'm still not entirely sure whether keeping my line work will present a problem.
I am also rather terrible at dealing with painting textures. I've practiced trying to paint wood and stone textures using reference but I tend to get so overwhelmed by all the stuff on them like the cracks/ridges that get all over the place. Your stuff is pretty detailed when it comes to creature skins and scales; is there a way of breaking it down so that it's not so daunting.
Thanks so much for this great question! I will post a response here on the blog in the coming weeks!
DeleteVery cool idea, sir.
ReplyDeleteI ask only that we get to see a layout/gallery of your weapons and armor that you use for reference - even if it is just styrofoam and broomsticks. Every so often we get the original goofy reference photo when you post a process, but I thought it would be interesting to get an in depth peek at your armory.
Thanks of sharing.
Consider it done, I will post a response here on the blog in the coming weeks!
DeleteOh, thank you for the opportunity, that's really cool of you!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how on earth you send out mails to future clients? I never know how to start a mail... What should I write to not sound full of myself but still come of as someone with self confidence? And I never feel that I have a strong enough portfolio to ever get work..
Again, thanks so much for doing this!

As a commercial freelance artist who has two kids (with a third on the way) I can't work full time but I am curious to know what a typical work day looks like for you. Where do you work and what does your daily schedule look like? How many projects can you do in a week/month? Thanks in advance!
